Bosch Showcases New Technologies

The first ever North American Vehicle Dynamics Expo is about to open its doors at the Rock Financial Showplace in suburban Detroit. At the said event, German company Bosch will be unveiling new technologies which they say will make vehicles even safer and more comfortable.

The event will run from October 24 until the 26th. Everyday of the event will see a different Bosch representative delivering presentations to attendees. Scott Dahl, the director of marketing and product planning at the company’s Chassis Systems, will be talking about how Electronic Stability Control or ESC can be used to integrate more functions and technologies to a vehicle. Dahl will be discussing the topic on October 25 at 9:30 AM.

Dr. Kay Stepper, the marketing manager for Bosch’s Chassis Systems Control Division, will speak about Vehicle Dynamics Management on Oct 24 at 10:15 AM. Discussion will also touch on drivetrain, suspension and steering technology advancements which improves chassis characteristics.

Joseph Miller will deliver his speech about the unique possibilities for stability systems for sport utility vehicles and light trucks. Much attention will be given to the application of Bosch’s technology to off-road bound vehicles. Miller will address the event on the last day at 11:35 AM.

One of the technologies which the German company is slated to showcase at the event is their Dynamic Steering Angle Control system. This technology uses the ESC to modify the front steering of a vehicle with the help of Bosch’s Active Front Steering technology. This system makes it easier to steer the vehicle and decreases braking distance. This makes a vehicle safer as it can readily stop when needed.

Another technology that Bosch will showcase at the upcoming event is the Dynamic Wheel Torque Control system. This is already being used by the 2008 BMW X5. The technology makes it easier for drivers to steer a vehicle during cornering even at high speed. The system increases engine torque and lightly brakes the rear wheel making a vehicle more agile.

The Dynamic Roll Stabilizer Force Control is also another system which is designed to complement ESC. Said system guides the driver during select driving situations. The system does this by electric power steering. This system is geared towards motivating drivers to increase their steering input.

The Dynamic Roll Stabilizer Force Control on the other hand creates roll-torque distribution between the front and the rear axle with the help of active roll stabilizers. This technology which is also controlled by a vehicle’s ESC improves the agility of a vehicle by reducing the adverse effects of oversteering and understeering.

These technologies will soon be used by vehicles that automakers produce. With the benefits of aforementioned technologies, they may soon be as common as Acura brake dust shields on vehicles sold to the public.

The Innovative Push Reel Lawn Mowers

Push reel lawn mowers are generally used to cut off home turf. But do you know that this also stands for a higher purpose? It is a given fact that people use this equipment for gardening to retain clean and well-maintained surroundings. But apart from this, it is also considered environmental friendly machinery due to its natural cleaning process without any components of pollutants and definitely does not spatter harmful elements like carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides. This serves as the basis why people switch on to using this type of machine weigh against other engines in the market that instigate detrimental effects to the ozone layer and to people’s health. Push reel lawn mowers are specifically designed in providing clean cut grass with corkscrew blades of more than five curved and twisted cutting edge. As you push the reels, all the grass that will be swept by the machine will be finely cut and tear. The blades on the right angle serve as the sharp edge thereby making it more effectual for the mower to cut all the grass in the backyard or to other small plots of land. This equipment also comes in several designs and styles, and as it is also revolutionized and modernized as years pass by. This is not machine operated so you will have to move it with all your muscle strength. This might be a lot difficult to deal with as most people would often go by the use of electric ones rather than manuals but looking at the brighter side, this gardening tool will help provide cardiovascular exercise that will be beneficial for your health. Now wouldn’t you think this is more of an innovation and great discovery than a complex task and than those operated machine lawn mowers? For those people who have been used to old and traditional lawn mowers with definitely of much greater weight weigh against other mowers, the new and advanced push reel lawn mowers is an entire opposite of the old version. This new improved machine is indeed much lighter in weight and is definitely easier to push and set in motion with other adjustable kits. If you want to cut tall grass then you can simply adjust the lawn with its cutting heights feature, if you want to generate a much sharper edge then you can simply fine-tune the sharpening area. All these features can be modified without having to purchase further gardening equipments. When you try to compare this mower to gas powered mower engine then you would be surprised by just how much the push reel mower creates no noise at all. If you use a gas powered lawn mower, the noise become too apparent and you would find it difficult to handle. One thing that push reel lawn mowers find difficult to do is to cut brushwood and branches. The twigs get easily stuck at the cutting and sharp edges of the mower and find it hard to function well. This is also not applicable as a leaf shedder so anyone who would have to use this function might have to look for a machine that will allow having this kind of function.

PART 2 – For part two of this article, head on to Push Reel Lawn Mowers, which is a popular website that provides advice on where to go to save money when buying scotts lawn care products.

New Technology From Bosch Reduces Fuel Consumption

BMW has partnered with another German company, Bosch, so as to provide their consumers with a vehicle with hybrid like capabilities. Bosch’s Smart Electronic stop-start system will be used on the BMW 1-Series which will start production this month.

The technology is akin to that one used by hybrid vehicles which shuts down the engine when the vehicle stops and immediately starts it once acceleration is needed. This technology was developed by Bosch as part of their operations in automotive parts and system.

The Smart Electronic start-stop feature is essentially a starter which is developed to adapt to stop-start operations especially for city driving. Frequent deceleration and acceleration is needed on city streets due to the hue amount of traffic on city streets. Shutting the engine down when the vehicle is stationary means that no fuel will be wasted. This means that no fuel is burned thus no emission is going to be produced.

According to laboratory tests, the Bosch stop-start system reduces fuel consumption by approximately eight percent on a regular trip. Carbon dioxide emission is also cut down by the same percentage. In city streets congested with so much traffic and the time a vehicle needs to stop is longer, the start-stop system can achieve ore than eight percent fuel consumption and emission reduction.

Dr. Volkmar Denner, a member of Bosch’s board of management, has this to say about their system: “This technology significantly reduces fuel consumption, especially in city driving. ” This is indeed true since like hybrid vehicles, the technology’s performance can truly be appreciated on city streets where frequent stops needs to be made. According to Denner, “This and other systems supplied by Bosch will help to reduce CO2 emissions further in the future. ”

The development of the system is in response to stricter emission standards passed by the European Union. This technology is also aimed to address the current threat of global warming due to excessive production of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide from vehicles.

Aside from the start-stop technology, Bosch has already announced the development of a battery sensor which determines the power left in a car’s battery pack and relates the information to the car’s electronic control module which activates the charging of the battery pack. “Bosch has drawn on its combined competence in drive trains, energy management, and starter technology to develop this system and its control function,” says Denner. The technology developed by Bosch can complement engine parts to save fuel and reduce emission.

With more and more innovations such as this, the auto industry will be making great leaps forward in their battle against global warming. In the future, not only BMW vehicles can be equipped with this technology since it can be used on other vehicles without a need to modify the drivetrain.

A Few Simple Steps to Make your Garden Look Great

The reason that I enjoy gardening so much, not only for myself, but working in other people’s gardens is the transformation that can be done, sometimes in a relatively small space of time. As such offering garden services to others is a pleasure and not a chore.

The main reasons for people calling in someone to look after their garden is because they simply don’t have the time but also because they lack the knowledge that is required to transform a basic ordinary garden into a colourful and tidy place that you can lounge and relax in on those hot balmy days during the summer months.

I am often called into gardens that have let nature take over, the main structure of the garden is in place, but the beds and borders have been swamped by weeds. The lawn is growing into the beds as well; they have lost their way and need redefining. Garden Lawn Care

The lawn will need to be cut, preferably with a good rotary or cylinder mower. Hover mowers are great if you have banks and slopes to contend with, but a rotary or cylinder mowers will give your lawn the nice cut that is required. Rotary mowers have an advantage over the cylinder mower in that they are simpler to use and generally the ground does not have to be 100% even. They are also easier to maintain than a cylinder mower. A cylinder mower is generally used if you want a bowling effect lawn, which most people do not. To finish the lawn off you must always cut the edges. If the edges need redefining then use a lawn-edging tool. Garden Beds and Borders

Always ensure the beds and borders of your garden are kept tidy by regular weeding. This can be achieved using a long handled hoe. Although this can seem a bit of a chore it will later pay dividends. The main structure of the planting should be created using shrubs. Then you will have your perennial plants and finally for that splash of additional colour through the gardening calendar summer bedding, spring bulbs which can include snowdrops, crocuses, daffodils, tulips and many more. Also ensure that any shrubs are kept in check by pruning at the required times. For example spring flowering garden shrubs need to be cut and tidied after they have flowered. This will ensure new growth during the summer for flowers the following year. Be sure to place plants in an environment in which they will feel at home in. Patio Cleaning

Patio areas need to be kept clean and tidy. This can be undertaken by the professional using specific patio cleaning equipment or by pressure washing. There are also many chemical cleaners on the market. Patio paving can cost a client large sums of money to have installed so it is worth looking after this area for longevity. Additional sand and cement mix brushed in between the paving may be required after either of the above processes. Gravel Areas and Pathways

Keep any gravel areas free from weeds either by using a systematic weed killer or getting down on your hands and knees and removing the garden nuisances by hand using a trowel for example.

Barbara has worked in the gardening arena for many years and has enjoyed a life long interest in all things garden related. For more information regarding garden maintenance services or patio cleaning please visit acresgm.co.uk

What Type Of Lawn Mower Do You Recommend?

I am preparing to purchase my first lawn mower. I am looking for a push mower (also known as a walk-behind). The grass in my yard grows very quickly, so I would like something that will last a while and not wear out quickly.
I have heard good things about the snapper company and was thinking I might get one of their mowers.
Do you know anything about snapper or do you have other recommendations?

How to Prevent Lawn Mower Injuries

Spring is here, the sky is blue, the grass is green and it’s time to give that lawn a trim. Maintaining lawn equipment is an important part of safe lawn care. The lawnmower is the main tool used for lawn maintenance or yard work and therefore, it is heavily used by most homeowners.

To keep your mower in excellent condition, do-it-yourself maintenance is needed at various times. Keeping your mower in working order is important for many reasons including safety. Lawn mower-related injuries to children are relatively common and can result in severe injury or death. Many amputations during childhood are caused by power mowers. Pediatricians have an important role as advocates and educators to promote the prevention of these injuries.

Lawn mower injuries are a seasonal threat to children and the leading cause of amputations in adolescents, say specialists from the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, Maryland’s designated pediatric trauma center where the most severe injuries are treated. The number-one advice to parents is: Treat the lawn mower as hazardous equipment, not a toy,” says Carol Gentry, R. N. , pediatric OR nurse manager. “You don’t let a child play with an electric saw, and that’s exactly what a lawn mower is. Each year, lawn mower accidents send 9,400 U. S. children to the hospital, causing injuries more severe than any other tool or device, research shows. The most common injuries are lacerations, fractures and amputations of the fingers, hands, toes, feet and legs. Most injuries occur when an operator is unaware that a child is behind the mower and shifts into reverse, backing over the child.

Careless use of John Deree lawn mowers results in more than 55,000 injuries every year. The devastating nature of these injuries cannot be overemphasized.

significant proportion results in loss of toes or part of the foot. Approximately 75 people die from lawn mower injuries every year.

How Do the Injuries Happen?

• Young children can fall or slip into the operating mower blade while playing and running nearby.

• Children can be injured while operating the mower themselves when too young to do so, or when preschoolers and school-age children fall off a mower while riding with an adult.

• Children can be injured when mowers are placed into reverse and the operator is not aware a child is behind them.

All of the injuries could be prevented by taking the following precautions:

• Before operating equipment, familiarize yourself with it and make sure it is in good working order.

• Never go barefoot while mowing.

• Keep children under 6 years old indoors while a power mower is in operation.

• Prevent injuries from flying objects, like stones or toys, by picking up objects from the lawn before mowing begins. Use a collection bag for grass clippings or a plate that covers the opening where cut grass is released.

• Designs for mower controls should continue to be improved for ease of operation and to minimize inadvertent control contact and unintended operation.

• When a lawn mower cuts off, be extra careful in removing any objects from the blade.
