What Type Of Lawn Mower Do You Recommend?
I am preparing to purchase my first lawn mower. I am looking for a push mower (also known as a walk-behind). The grass in my yard grows very quickly, so I would like something that will last a while and not wear out quickly.
I have heard good things about the snapper company and was thinking I might get one of their mowers.
Do you know anything about snapper or do you have other recommendations?
Best brands from personal experience –
1. Snapper
2. Toro
3. John Deere
4. Honda
No matter which you buy make sure the dealer has a good parts & service department. Don’t buy from a big box store or you’ll regret it when/if you ever need service. Even if they carry the brand you want, they’re not the same models offered by “real” power equipment dealers.
find one that is guaranteed to start in one pull, self propelled and has a variable speed, the ones with a speed selecter normally have speeds that are either too slow or too fast in tight areas, making you do all the pushing……..
one that does mulching and cutting, also check how hard it is to install and remove the bag…. to make it realistic ask the lawn guys to put a bag of grass seed or something in the bag to add weight to make it more realistic… mowers with the larger tires in the rear seem easier to turn but try these manuevers in the store also….. looking silly doing demo stuff in the store will save you much frustration when you are mowing your lawn in 90 plus degree summer days…..
the Toro or John Deere brands are really good mowers…. what ever you do skip the cheap mowers, the only thing you will save is money, the effort you expell over the coming up years in lugging around an inferior mower will never out weigh the savings…
Toro Super Recycler mowers are great!
I have used many of the ‘best’ mulching lawn mowers and Toro’s are by far the best.
The rest of the options are just that; options.
If you want / need electric start or self propelled, those are up to you.

You are a classic, Down here in NZ we have about 45 millon of these mowers, many different sizes and colours, Not one of them has failed yet.
Anyway buy a quality machine from a reputable dealer that Services What They Sell

🙂
I have a Cub Cadet (1,800) riding mower and a Torro self propelled walk-behind (400). Torro starts first pull and will drag your tail end around the yard, be ready to walk fast. Very satisfied with both machines.
I like a Briggs and Stratton engine. They are put on a lot of different mowers.
A lot of snapper mowers are sold where I live so they must be good too.
Get a 5 horse power engine with big wheels in the back.
You know what…I would suggest not getting an electric one and definitely spending the extra money on a self-propelled. Toro is a good brand also.
