Bosch AXT Rapid 2200 – Electric Shredder
The Bosch AXT Rapid Shredder 2200 has an incredible laser cut precision blade which is made from hardened steel. Combined with the Bosch Powerdrive motor and the special hopper design it also provides a much faster throughput of garden materials, it can even handle branches up to aboout 4cms in diameter.
It’s one of he best selling shredders on the market and it is probably one of the quietest but check out the reviews below and on the Amazon web site for further details.
This is an excellent grinder. The machine is so much better than the others I owned.
I pretend to be an experienced shredder – I've had several machines on a number of years. For me, the problems to overcome obstacles when feeding through matter (my last shredder, an Alko 2500R New Tec was terrible for that), wear on the blade performance and reduce noise.
By choosing this shredder I took to realize that he was given the thumbs up by Which? in November 2007 and had a very positive write-up on the "fredshed" website, a leading source of independent advice. I can only agree with what Fred said about keeping the blade sharp:
"Be careful what you put in the shredder and especially do not ALL get dirty inside. With high speed, even a small amount of soil acts as an abrasive and dulls the blade quickly. "
The machine is the best I have had. It is well designed and constructed and also very powerful. The blade is well (if you follow the tips above and make sure no stones find their way into the machine) and is slightly cheaper than most brands to replace. It is the quietest machine I have used. . . . . but probably could still worry if the neighbors to work unsociable hours. The best thing for me is that it is not subject to blocking. If used judiciously, with the help of the Probe wide, you can easily spend a whole session without a crash.
The collection bag as an accessory is not really necessary. A large plastic box / storage box is also good to get the Shreddings the compost heap.
To appreciate this machine you must have tried some of the others. I recommend it to anyone considering buying a shredder to help control their garden waste.
We bought this after a Which? review by saying that the mill was the most effective garden, they have tested – we were not disappointed. Used, he shredded everything we put into it. Branches up to 4 cm were cut into chips of 1mm, the leaves were cut into small pieces. With a few small branches, especially the green, the grinder removed the leaves and twigs left some 10 cm long, although most were cut into small pieces.
This is not particularly noisy when turned on, but with pieces of increasingly large timber it was noisy, especially when a piece of wood does not rattle around inside the machine before being crushed. I do not think it necessary to wear ear protection for temporary use, nor strong enough to think that the neighbors complain about the noise. Since it is almost half the price of the Bosch grinder silent on HP, this machine is very good value. I recommend wearing gardening gloves as thick as it could tear the branches.
Assembling it took about 5 minutes. This has been a matter of attaching the wheels and frame and work where the Allen wrench provided is supposed to be stored.
We also purchased the storage bag from Amazon partnership. It's like the storage bags blue Ikea sell their control panels, except this one is much more expensive but of similar quality and perhaps a bit bigger.
Excellent tool, a job well done and worth the money. Easy to use and effective.
The downside, after a few uses (say an hour) the blade is dull and unless changed quickly closed the mill. It has been used for the light mulch (such as sweet peas, the runner bean plants, hedge trimmings), no branches of wood greater than 1 cm. diameter. After I turned on the blade for replacement and it was great for another couple of weeks, until the causes of blockages also obtained Blunt constant after an hour or two of use. The replacement blades are not cheap, about 12 pounds each.
On the positive side even though the manual indicates that the blades can not be resharpened, I nevertheless resharpened mine and they were good for an hour or two.
The minor niggle only other possibility is that the blockages were quite frequent, it is true that I was using a lot of "green", but if the width of the throat of the shredder output was a few inches deeper I think that most of these crashes could be avoided.
Despite these comments, I am delighted with the shredder, it makes so much more efficient composting.
