Craftsman Briggs & Stratton Power-propelled Rotary Lawn Mower Is Emitting Carbon (black Soot Substance)?
I noticed the substance on the handles and side of lawnmower…It ran fine – no other issues…Any ideas what could be causing a problem like this?

Replace Air filter, check oil level, and or change. Do nt tip mower towards Air filter side. This will soak air filter with oil, and it will not work propperly. Depends how old lawnmower is. Does it smoke all the time? The burning or combustion of fuel is not clean. carbon is emmited, but not to that extent!
For some reason you have a rich fuel mixture. It could be that the air filter is dirty and needs changing or it could be that the carburetor needs cleaning.
