Remember them? I still have one. It’s all we use at the cottage and it must be 40 yrs old anyway. We get the blades sharpened periodically and it does as good a job as the $500 electric or gas mowers……….and you don’t have to pay for gas to use one. It’s also good exercise.
The rotary lawn mower was the mower of choice when I did the yard work as a teenager. Choice, as in, I did not have one. I also used a manual edger. I don’t recall any neighbor using anything but the rotary mower. Most of our neighborhood consisted of grade school and high school teachers. I don’t imagine their incomes were high in those days, but it was a lovely neighborhood.
We used to have one my mom gave us, for a back up. And I
used it many times. I had to keep the blades sharpened tho
or it would be useless. I sharpened the blades myself with
an old steel file, and once, did it the reverse of how it should be done. And the ends of the grass blades were shredded. What a strange sight to see a frizzy lawn look.
I passed it on to a late aunt, before moving to a desert lo-
cation, and now I wish I had it back again. It was always de-
pendable. And I sure got a work out on a sunny day without
even trying.
A push mower is, as best I can remember, the very first thing that I ever prayed diligently to own. That was along about 1947 and I , the entrepreneur that I was, was ready to seek my fortune mowing lawns. I still remember my Dad coming home with that beautiful mower with the green handle sticking up in the back of the pickup. I was one happy kid. God does answer prayers.
Oh yes I sure do remember them. I was born and raised on a farm that had two lawns, and barn yard area that had to be cut. Still on the same farm and now I wish I had one of those lawn mowers to do the detailed areas, that are hard to handle on a lawn tractor. Do they still sell them.
Yes sir. I bought a new one two weeks ago. They are coming back into fashion now. You get a cleaner cut, save money on electricity, aren’t at risk of electrocuting yourself by cutting a cable, are far more mobile and you can get a workout while you mow. I refuse to use an electric or petrol mower.
Yes my family had one when I was a kid and it took everything I had then to push one.. the weeds are thick in the south.. ugh. And as much as I understand the savings on gas powered mowers… my lawn would never get cut now if I had to push one. Heck, I am wanting a self-propelled now.. oh my back!
LOL . My neighbor growing up was well into her 80’s and always used one . She never wanted anyone to do it for her either and actually had the best looking yard in the neighborhood ! God bless her ! My son cuts the grass now and boy would that be fun to get one for him …LOL !
OMG!!!! Have I…my mom made me mow with that every week….the yard was big and that mower weighed more than me..and it took forever..Oh I hated that mower!!!!!!!
No wonder I use a lawn service…they are worth every penny to me! Oh what a memory…LOL! My mom did not believe in a kid sitting on her butt!!!!!
Yes I did about 40 years ago and I hope I never see another one again. Well I guess I dont mind seeing it AS LONG AS I DON’T HAVE TO USE IT Those were the hardest thing in the world for a woman to push. I didn’t do it much and I sure would NEVER do it again. I’d rather use an old wringer type washer again.LOL
Yes I remember them, in fact I have one in pristine condition that I walk by on the way to pay the gardener each month.
I think of it fondly, along with my exercise bicycle and treadmill.
Oh yeah ! Used them as a kid, not real good when you have grass ankle deep ! I can still remember the sound it made, and I can still remeber pushing it and cussing my neighbor for having a power mower !
They have them at Home Depot and Lowes for around $200.00
They are fine for a small city yard, but I have close to 1/2 acre, and in the heat and humidity here you have to be nuts to use one.
Yes. I like them. I purchased one for $5.00 at a yard sale to go over ivy in the yard. Real handy dandy and the use is great exercise. Now if I could just have the blades sharpened.
Oh yes. I had one and my arms would always be sore that evening even in my younger days. I would always get the garden hose after mowing and wash the blades off. Aaahhh…the good ole days!
We had one when I was a kid, we had a small yard so it was perfect. Have you ever seen the ones that they put an engine on top of to make it a power mower?
We bought our daughter a small city home and it has the typical small city yard. We gave her this type of mower and she loves it. No running to buy gas and she gets exercise too.
Yes and yes i have. I’m going to buy one . It’s better for the earth and no gas. i think i saw one in a magazine. Carol Wright Gifts and they sell typewriter too.
GOD BLESS
I never used one. But they still make them and they are not nearly as heavy as the old ones. I have considered getting one for the spots that are hard to mow with the riding mower.

My neighbor still has one and when the lawn gets too long she cannot push it. I took up mowing her yard 2 years ago and continue today.
You can still buy new ones, ringer washers too.
Yep bought a used 2nd hand 2 cyle 16 ” blade in 1956. I beat the heck out of using the old reel type push mower . It was $25 and worth every penny.
That kind of mower was the bane of my childhood. I was overjoyed when we got a gas mower.
my dad had one & i used to follow him around & hed make grass piles & id jump in it.
You can still buy them. They ain’t cheap anymore.
I still have one. It will wear you out. Only use it on small lawn.
All the time as a young teen.
Yes, I do. Home Depot still sells them to this day, about 100.00 if I remember correctly
I remember them, but I have never used one.
I used one a LOT. I hated it and would never use one again.
my husband is the only one in our neighborhood that still uses one, he says it is good exercise..
