How Do You Protect A Lawn Mower From The Elements?
I have a two car garage with two cars in it, and there isn’t any room for a lawn mower. Everything else fits in nicely, but now I have had to cover the mower with a heavy, big, blue tarp to protect it from the rain (Houston gets a lot of it). Sheds are really expensive, and I really only need to protect one thing.
I’ve thought of hanging it from the walls or ceiling in the garage, but worry that it might fall on the cars. I’m looking for an inexpensive, effective solution which doesn’t detract from the landscaping or risk damage to my cars. What are your ideas?
If you do to a hardware store you can find a cover for a law mower. My dad has the same problem and he has his on the side of the house. I got a cover from home depot for 20 bucks.
Hope this helps.
I do commercial landscaping for a living and don’t protect my mowers at all from the elements. Occasionally I might tarp them if the weather is really bad, but usually I don’t even worry about it.
I also know people that leave their mowers outside unprotected and their mowers work fine.
I think mowers are designed to withstand the elements. Obviously you don’t want to submerge it into water, but a little rain, sun and snow shouldn’t hurt it. Don’t forget to change the oil occasionally and have the blade sharpened. Also, if you do any under the platform work on the mower at all, always disconnect the spark plug!!! You don’t want to loose your fingers.
Hanging it from the rafters wouldn’t be a good idea for a number of reasons the first being all the damage it will cause if it falls. Also, it might cause the oil to go into the top half of the engine, causing starting problems and your engine to smoke profusely when it finally does start.
If you can cover it, do so, but I don’t think it is necessary.
ideally as you know it should be kept in the garage having a tarp over it helps lubricate and grease it regularly if it is out in the oen to the elements how about a cheap lean to, to the side wall of a property with a green waterproof cover enough to cover the lawnmower and permit access when required
Why don’t you get a wooden crate, side up that your mower would fit in.You can fold down handle no doubt? you could waterproof crate with either black or clear plastic sheeting. You could if you wanted, make the crate pleasing to the eye, by putting some pots on top with some cascading plants, dress it up. Also you don’t say whether you could put it behind garage? Also your plastic would need to roll down over front of crate.
