Save Fuel With Bosch Co2 Sensor

If you have been looking for ways so as to save on the much expensive fuel, you may want to try out the new carbon dioxide sensor that has been created by Bosch. The company calls their new creation the Climate Control Sensor (or the CCS) and what it does is that it keeps an eye on the carbon dioxide level in the passenger area of a vehicle. And while it does such a task, it also does increase the effectiveness of the vehicle’s air conditioning system.

The total effect of the Bosch Climate Control Sensor is that the air conditioning system does work well and in the process the vehicle does not need much energy. And this translates to lesser usage and consumption of fuel. And that much you would be saving on fuel, you sure can make use in purchasing other auto products for your vehicle like perhaps EBC pads or maybe new auto parts.

What happens when the CCS is doing its work well? When there is fresh air in the passenger cabin of a vehicle, the CCS tracks this and then sends signals to the air conditioning system to transfer to recirculation. During this period of recirculation, the air conditioner does not need much energy. And according to engineers and designers of this product, they are estimating that users of the Bosch CCS would be able to save to a high of 10 percent on fuel.

Known as one of the leaders in the field of industrial technology and automotive technology, the Bosch Group is one of the most popular brands that consumers trust. The company started out back in the year 1886 when Robert Bosch created this one as the “Workshop for Precision Mechanics and Electrical Engineering” which is the previous name of the Bosch Group. At present, the company has around 280 subsidiaries as well as service centers that are over 12,000 in number. All of these are scattered all over the globe.

New Bosch Technology Saves Fuel

The auto industry is currently geared towards the reduction of fuel consumption as the global community becomes increasingly aware of the threat of global warming. Aside from car makers, other consumer industries have also taken steps to develop devices which will help vehicles save on fuel.

One of the leading makers of automotive components, Bosch, has recently developed yet another innovative technology which will improve fuel economy of vehicles. The Stuttgart, a Germany based company, recently announced the development of their Climate Control Sensor. This sensor essentially checks constantly the level of carbon dioxide inside a vehicle’s cabin.

By monitoring the amount of carbon dioxide inside a vehicle, the device allows the air conditioning unit to optimize its performance. When the amount of carbon dioxide inside a vehicle’s cabin surpassed the preset volume, the air conditioning unit will feed fresh air in side the vehicle. Then, the unit will automatically switch to recirculation mode which means that the air conditioner will not be using up much energy.

This technology saves fuel since it decreases the load on the vehicle’s engine. The air conditioner’s compressor is being powered by the engine and when it is turned off by the new sensor from Bosch, the engine will not need more fuel to burn to power the compressor.

The design of the Climate Control Sensor (CCS) is compact to save space in the vehicle. The technology uses infrared-based spectroscopy to determine carbon dioxide level inside a vehicle’s compartment. The company known for their excellence in developing cutting edge automotive electronics designed the device to determine even minute level of carbon dioxide.

There is also a more advanced version of the sensor which not only checks the level of carbon dioxide but also measures the humidity and temperature inside the vehicle. This more advanced sensor further optimizes the cooling unit’s performance. The use of the said devices according to Bosch engineers can save consumers by as much as ten percent on fuel consumption.

With this innovation, Bosch once again proved that they are the leading producer of advanced auto components which can complement standard auto parts like Nissan ignition coil and other engine operation related components. Aside from auto electronics, the company also provides automobile components like anti-lock braking system, which the company invented, fuel injection system, starters, and alternators. These components from Bosch are known to perform well and for their durability.

Durability is also a strong selling point of Bosch’s industrial machinery, and hand tools sold all over the world. The company is focused in its automotive department as shown by the fact that half of their annual sales globally comes from their automotive technology.

Bosch Showcases New Technologies

The first ever North American Vehicle Dynamics Expo is about to open its doors at the Rock Financial Showplace in suburban Detroit. At the said event, German company Bosch will be unveiling new technologies which they say will make vehicles even safer and more comfortable.

The event will run from October 24 until the 26th. Everyday of the event will see a different Bosch representative delivering presentations to attendees. Scott Dahl, the director of marketing and product planning at the company’s Chassis Systems, will be talking about how Electronic Stability Control or ESC can be used to integrate more functions and technologies to a vehicle. Dahl will be discussing the topic on October 25 at 9:30 AM.

Dr. Kay Stepper, the marketing manager for Bosch’s Chassis Systems Control Division, will speak about Vehicle Dynamics Management on Oct 24 at 10:15 AM. Discussion will also touch on drivetrain, suspension and steering technology advancements which improves chassis characteristics.

Joseph Miller will deliver his speech about the unique possibilities for stability systems for sport utility vehicles and light trucks. Much attention will be given to the application of Bosch’s technology to off-road bound vehicles. Miller will address the event on the last day at 11:35 AM.

One of the technologies which the German company is slated to showcase at the event is their Dynamic Steering Angle Control system. This technology uses the ESC to modify the front steering of a vehicle with the help of Bosch’s Active Front Steering technology. This system makes it easier to steer the vehicle and decreases braking distance. This makes a vehicle safer as it can readily stop when needed.

Another technology that Bosch will showcase at the upcoming event is the Dynamic Wheel Torque Control system. This is already being used by the 2008 BMW X5. The technology makes it easier for drivers to steer a vehicle during cornering even at high speed. The system increases engine torque and lightly brakes the rear wheel making a vehicle more agile.

The Dynamic Roll Stabilizer Force Control is also another system which is designed to complement ESC. Said system guides the driver during select driving situations. The system does this by electric power steering. This system is geared towards motivating drivers to increase their steering input.

The Dynamic Roll Stabilizer Force Control on the other hand creates roll-torque distribution between the front and the rear axle with the help of active roll stabilizers. This technology which is also controlled by a vehicle’s ESC improves the agility of a vehicle by reducing the adverse effects of oversteering and understeering.

These technologies will soon be used by vehicles that automakers produce. With the benefits of aforementioned technologies, they may soon be as common as Acura brake dust shields on vehicles sold to the public.

New Technology From Bosch Reduces Fuel Consumption

BMW has partnered with another German company, Bosch, so as to provide their consumers with a vehicle with hybrid like capabilities. Bosch’s Smart Electronic stop-start system will be used on the BMW 1-Series which will start production this month.

The technology is akin to that one used by hybrid vehicles which shuts down the engine when the vehicle stops and immediately starts it once acceleration is needed. This technology was developed by Bosch as part of their operations in automotive parts and system.

The Smart Electronic start-stop feature is essentially a starter which is developed to adapt to stop-start operations especially for city driving. Frequent deceleration and acceleration is needed on city streets due to the hue amount of traffic on city streets. Shutting the engine down when the vehicle is stationary means that no fuel will be wasted. This means that no fuel is burned thus no emission is going to be produced.

According to laboratory tests, the Bosch stop-start system reduces fuel consumption by approximately eight percent on a regular trip. Carbon dioxide emission is also cut down by the same percentage. In city streets congested with so much traffic and the time a vehicle needs to stop is longer, the start-stop system can achieve ore than eight percent fuel consumption and emission reduction.

Dr. Volkmar Denner, a member of Bosch’s board of management, has this to say about their system: “This technology significantly reduces fuel consumption, especially in city driving. ” This is indeed true since like hybrid vehicles, the technology’s performance can truly be appreciated on city streets where frequent stops needs to be made. According to Denner, “This and other systems supplied by Bosch will help to reduce CO2 emissions further in the future. ”

The development of the system is in response to stricter emission standards passed by the European Union. This technology is also aimed to address the current threat of global warming due to excessive production of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide from vehicles.

Aside from the start-stop technology, Bosch has already announced the development of a battery sensor which determines the power left in a car’s battery pack and relates the information to the car’s electronic control module which activates the charging of the battery pack. “Bosch has drawn on its combined competence in drive trains, energy management, and starter technology to develop this system and its control function,” says Denner. The technology developed by Bosch can complement engine parts to save fuel and reduce emission.

With more and more innovations such as this, the auto industry will be making great leaps forward in their battle against global warming. In the future, not only BMW vehicles can be equipped with this technology since it can be used on other vehicles without a need to modify the drivetrain.

One of the fastest growing auto markets in the world is China and companies concerned with the auto industry have already announced expansion of their operations in the said country. Ford China recently announced that they will be offering new models in the Chinese auto market and will be putting up plants in the country to meet the growing demand for their cars.

Another company which has expressed its interest in expanding its Chinese operation is the German auto parts maker Bosch. One of the leading manufacturers of auto safety components such as antilock braking and fuel-injection systems, starters, alternators, and auto electronics, the company planned to increase their global presence.

At the 2007 Shanghai Auto Show, Rudolf Colm, a member of Bosch’s board of management, announced their goal in the country. “As a pioneer in automotive safety technologies with extensive international experience, Bosch will partner with the local automotive industry to support China’s efforts in reducing road accidents by both providing latest technologies and promoting automobile safety technology,” says Colm.

Bosch will not be the first company to partner with Chinese automotive companies in recent memory. Car manufacturers such as Nissan, Ford, and General Motors have entered into partnership with Chinese automakers. Even the electric car producer ZAP has a Chinese partner which produces the three-wheeled zero particle emission vehicles it sells in the United States.

Bosch has already earmarked a budget of 100 million yuan in the construction of a winter test track in the country. The plan for the test track is that it will be located in China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Construction of the track will commence this year and the final product is expected to be completed by next year. The track will be composed of an icy test track and a ground test track. The said investment will be used to test the performance of vehicles equipped with Bosch safety features on icy roads.

Tests such as these are important since icy roads are one of the most dangerous terrains for any vehicle. The Bosch-sponsored track will be the biggest of its kind in China upon its completion.

Aside from the test track, Bosch is also planning to allocate an additional 100 million euros for the expansion of their production facilities, research and development, laboratories and other testing facilities. The said facilities are found in Suzhou. The investment being poured by the German company will increase the local capability of Bosch China. Other investments in China for Bosch include a 2 million euro allocation for the recently opened vehicle verification road in Suzhou. The company has also acquired a controlling stake in the Pacifica Group of Australia and Bosch has earmarked a 50 million euro budget for Pacifica’s plant in China.

Peter Pang, the president of Bosch (China) Investment Ltd. , has this to say about the expansion of the Bosch operation in China: “Increased automotive safety has been a global concern in the past decades. We will draw from our experiences worldwide to fulfill our commitment to making driving safer in China. Bosch has already put local development and application facilities in place to support the need for auto safety in China. ”

One of Bosch’s most notable innovations is the anti-lock braking system which complements highly efficient brake components from Active Brakes Direct and with the expansion of their business in China, the company is set to offer more to the auto industry while it partners with other companies. “We will work closely with local car manufacturers to develop and promote both active and passive safety functions,” says Pang.
