Looking for a Green Alternative To an Electric Powered Weed Trimmer (string Trimmer)?
I am looking for a green alternative to my current gas-powered weed trimmer, a green substitution comparable to my rotary push mower rather than my old gas mower. It seems crazy to mow the lawn with the push mower then get out the gas-powered string trimmer to do all the edging!
What did people use before gas- and electric-powered weed whackers?
We used hand held grass shears, rather like giant scissors. For hedges we used hedge trimmers with long handles. The shears were good for our waist lines, the hedge trimmers for our upper body. That’s when gardening was more physical. http://www.rittenhouse.ca/asp/Product.as…
String trimmers became popular during the 1970’s. Before that people used hand held garden shears http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=pr…

Greenies can still buy these tools at the local garden center.
Sheep, goats, cattle, scythe, sickle and a reel type push mower. Of course my father’s solution was to pour concrete and paint it green. That saves the fertilizer, cutting, weeding and the effort of planting seeds and saves the water. Of course his idea was facetious.
grass shears. Fiskars makes them and Home Depot sells them.
